it's a drawing. that person actually never existed so he never had to deal with this costume-making problem you brought up.

Hey folks! It's supposed to be a mask, a costume. It's easier to see on the actual original drawing that the mask is a bit hairy. Unfortunately you can't really see that detail here. The drawing is basically about the act we put on, the masks we wear to appear tough, cool, confident, in control, etc. But below the surface we are mostly frightened little animals (Or, mostly full of sh*t). Let me know if you have a different interpretation - I'd love to hear it.
