We are all human, all the same species, all part of the same gigantic family.
By the way, I like your femurs!
This one is from 2013. I often post older works on Instagram, since many who follow me there are new to my work. But I should do the same on occasion here on the blog, since many of you may not have seen absolutely everything I’ve ever drawn :)
A little while ago one of my drawings appeared (full page!) in Max Joseph, an arts magazine put out by the Bavarian State Opera. I am absolutely impressed that the an opera company is so well funded that it can put out a beautifully designed 100 page magazine. (And yes, they paid me to use the image.) You don’t see this in Canada, that’s for sure. Germany, you are amazing: you clearly VALUE the arts.
(the painting on the magazine cover is by Alex Sewell.)
… but only to the things that matter.
I keep seeing quotes and articles and manifestos that basically state “Say YES to adventure! Say YES to everything!”, and others that extoll “the power of saying NO” and “Saying NO gives you time and possibility”, and there’s lots of truth to all of these, but I found the above statement to be most helpful to me.
This drawing is available for sale here. Ink & watercolour, 8 x 10 inches.
I'm from Canada, not the US, so some may tell me to stay out of American politics. But many of the decisions made by Trump's administration affect the rest of the world, including (and especially) Canada. So I won't be quiet, or indifferent. Regardless, Obama's message is a universal one, and relevant to EVERYONE.
But hey, what's even better than writing about it on a blog is VOTING. If you are lucky enough to live in democracy, you have that power. So the next time there's an election where we live, whether it's at the municipal, county, provincial, state, or federal level, we need to get informed, get involved, and VOTE. It matters.
A self portrait of sorts. Let's just say that after the last load of laundry I did, there are two or three t-shirts that are a tad too small to wear.
